An intro to John the Baptist for kids

This week we are starting a new series in Sunday School looking at people Jesus met in the Gospel of Mark. Today we are beginning with John the Baptist!

Read and watch

You can start by reading Mark 1:1-11 in your Bible or online. Then watch this video to find out more about John the Baptist.

Think

  • What was the special job that God sent John to do?

  • What does 'repentance' mean? (If you're not sure, this might help!)

  • What unusual thing happened when John baptised Jesus?

  • What does this unusual thing teach us about Jesus?

Explore

Explore the story further with this fun word search or this tricky word scramble! You can also colour in a picture of John the Baptist speaking to the crowd.

John the Baptist had some interesting habits, like eating locusts and honey. Why don't you go into your garden, or local park, and see how many insects you can find? Keep a list! Did you see any locusts? Then come inside and cook some yummy honey biscuits! Take some photos of your baking efforts and email them to Geoff. He will share them on the church blog!

Pray

It's great to spend time praying to God. Why don't you invite someone in your house to pray with you? You could write or draw your prayer points on post it notes or a piece of paper and stick it to the fridge. That way, whenever you go to eat a snack this week you can pray!

Dance

Finally, here is a fun song about following Jesus and letting him guide you. Can you learn the lyrics and dance moves??
